The Psalmist sings, “The Lord reigns; let the earth rejoice…Be glad in the Lord, you righteous ones…” Why is it good news to all mankind that God reigns? Because He is good, benevolent, longsuffering, and slow to anger. Why is it good news for the righteous? Because nothing comes to us that has not passed through our Father’s hands. His sovereignty is our license to live our faith huge and be ready to die well!
In a pandemic, it’s good to remember that our God reigns. This reality brought Psalm 97 to mind and my sermon entitled, Sovereignty and Gladness, originally preached May 2016.
You can’t preach God’s sovereignty without listening to Chris Tomlin’s classic song entitled, Sovereign. He sings,
“In your everlasting arms, All the pieces of my life, From beginning to the end, I can trust you. In your never-failing love, You work everything for good, God whatever comes my way, I will trust you.”
